Family visit
Can I apply for a visa?
You can apply for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands if you have 1st or 2nd degree relatives in the Netherlands. The following persons are 1st or 2nd degree relatives:
- 1 st degree: partner (marriage partner or registered partner), parent (also adoptive and stepparent), parent-in-law, child (also adopted and stepchild), daughter-in-law, son-in-law
- 2 nd degree: brother, sister, grandchild, grandfather, grandmother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepsister and stepbrother
Would you like to visit family with your partner and children under the age of 18 (nuclear family)? Then you can also apply for a Schengen visa for your nuclear family.
How can I apply for a visa?
Are you coming to the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days to visit family? And do you have 1st or 2nd degree relatives in the Netherlands? Then you can apply for a Schengen visa at VFS Global in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok or Yekaterinburg.
Business
Can I apply for a visa?
You are eligible to apply for a Schengen visa if you work for a company with a branch in the Netherlands, and with 10 or more employees.
How can I apply for a visa?
Send an email to the economic department of the Netherlands embassy in Moscow: mos-economics@minbuza.nl. Please include:
- the name of the company (or the names of the companies) in the Russian Federation and in the Netherlands
- your first name, surname and function in the company
- your email address and telephone number
- the period of your stay
- your purpose of stay
The embassy will contact you within a few days. You will then hear whether you can apply for a visa.

Can I apply for a visa?
You can apply for a Schengen visa if you work as a seafarer.
How can I apply for a visa?
How you can apply for a visa, depends on your situation:
- If your shipping company is affiliated with the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR), it is covered by the Blue Carpet Program. You can apply for a visa without an appointment at VFS Global in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok or Yekaterinburg. Check the opening hours on the website of VFS Global in the Russian Federation.
- If your shipping company is not affiliated with the KVNR, it is not covered by the Blue Carpet Program. Make an appointment online at VFS Global in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok or Yekaterinburg.
Are you not sure whether your shipping company is affiliated with the KVNR? The Dutch embassy in Moscow cannot check this for you. Please contact the KVNR.
Social or cultural
Can I apply for a visa?
You are eligible to apply for a Schengen visa if you meet the following 2 conditions:
- You have been invited by a Dutch social, cultural or government organisation.
- The event or visit you have been invited to is in line with the Dutch policy regarding the Russian Federation: supporting independent and critical organisations, individuals and artists.
With a Schengen visa for a social or cultural purpose, you cannot perform paid work in the Netherlands.
How can I apply for a visa?
Send an email to the Netherlands embassy in Moscow: mos-ca@minbuza.nl. Please include:
- your name and surname
- your email address and telephone number
- the period of your stay
- your purpose of stay
- a copy of the invitation of the Dutch organisation
The embassy will contact you within a few days. You will then hear whether you can apply for a visa.
Have you heard from the embassy that you can apply for a visa? Then you can apply for a Schengen visa for any trip to the Netherlands at VFS Global in Moscow.
Other purpose of travel
For other purposes of travel, you can only apply for a visa if you are the family member of a national of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland. Or if you are the parent of a Dutch national aged under 18. In this case you can apply for Schengen visa facilitation.
If you meet the conditions for Schengen visa facilitation, you can submit your application at VFS Global in Moscow, St Petersburg, Vladivostok or Ekaterinburg.
If you do not meet these conditions you cannot apply for a Schengen visa.
